Salafs sayings

Abu ad-Dardaa narrated [Saheeh Muslim, No.6588]: The Messenger of Allaah said: «No believing servant supplicates for his brother behind his back (in his absence), except that the Angels say: "The same be for you too".»
al-Imaam an-Nawawee comments [Riyaadh as-Saaliheen #1494]: This hadeeth makes it evident that one who prays for someone in his absence also stands to benefit from it because the angel appointed for the task of praying for those who pray for others will pray for him, saying, "O Allaah! Grant him also the same which he has asked for others".

Speak Graciously to Your Boss

Question:

Somebody outwardly speaks respectfully to his boss and gives him presents, but inwardly hates doing so and wishes that someone else were in his place. Is this hypocrisy? Despite his aversion to being subordinate, the boss does happen to be someone of noble character.
Answer:

In the Name of Allaah and All praise is for Allaah. This person should be sincere in his dealings, sincere in speaking to his boss, and sincere in supplicating for him. But he should desist from giving him presents, as this may in some situations be equivalent to giving a bribe. Nevertheless, he should pray for his boss at the end of Salah and ask Allaah to help him fulfil his trust. The believer is the mirror of his brother, so beware of hypocrisy and bribery. Speaking kind and gracious words is good and admirable, words that signify a sincere concern for the person being spoken to.
