Best of you

4. "The best of people are those who are best in fulfilling [rights]." [Ibn Mâjah, Sahîh]

Quotes to remember

23. ‘Ali ibn Zaid mentioned, “A man of the Quraysh spoke harshly to the Caliph `Umar Ibn ‘Abdul ‘Aziz who remained silent for a long time and then said, “You wish that the devil rouses in me the pride of the Caliphate and I treat you so rudely that you can take revenge tomorrow (in the Afterlife) on me.”

Salafs sayings

Abu ad-Dardaa narrated [Saheeh Muslim, No.6588]: The Messenger of Allaah said: «No believing servant supplicates for his brother behind his back (in his absence), except that the Angels say: "The same be for you too".»
al-Imaam an-Nawawee comments [Riyaadh as-Saaliheen #1494]: This hadeeth makes it evident that one who prays for someone in his absence also stands to benefit from it because the angel appointed for the task of praying for those who pray for others will pray for him, saying, "O Allaah! Grant him also the same which he has asked for others".

Concerning the Hadeeth ''Whoever Turns Away From My Sunnah''

Question:

What is the meaning of the Hadeeth; Ýãä ÑÛÈ Úä ÓäÊí ÝáíÓ ãäí "Whoever turns away from my Sunnah, then he is not of me." Does one fall under this category when he doesn't pray the Sunnah prayers that come before and after the obligatory one?
Answer:

The Prophet (sallAllaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said:
Ýãä ÑÛÈ Úä ÓäÊí ÝáíÓ ãäí

"Whoever turns away from my Sunnah, then he is not of me." (Al-Bukhari no. 5063 and Muslim no. 1401)

This means whoever turns away from my way that I follow, then he is not of me. This is because they have chosen another way than the path of the Prophet (sallAllaahu `alayhi wa sallam). The optional and voluntary prayers are not related to this Hadeeth, not performing them is not done with the objective of turning away from the Sunnah of the Messenger (sallAllaahu `alayhi wa sallam). Rather, since these acts are optional, and not compulsory, people are permitted by Allaah Almighty not to perform them. So there is a difference between someone who abandons the guidance of the Prophet (sallAllaahu `alayhi wa sallam), turning away from it, and one who does not follow it out of laziness or because Allaah Almighty has permitted him not to do so.
