Best of you

31. "Verily, the best of perfume for men is that which is strong in smell and light in colour, and the best of perfume for women is that which is strong in colour and light in smell." [Tirmidhî, Sahîh]

Quotes to remember

19. Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (ra) narrated, “I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about what saves me from Allah’s wrath, and he said, “Do not become angry.” (al-Tabarani and Ibn Abdul Barr) Ibn `Umar, Ibn Mas’ud, and Abu Darda’ (ra) relate similar conversations on their own behalf.

Salafs sayings

Abu ad-Dardaa narrated [Saheeh Muslim, No.6588]: The Messenger of Allaah said: «No believing servant supplicates for his brother behind his back (in his absence), except that the Angels say: "The same be for you too".»
al-Imaam an-Nawawee comments [Riyaadh as-Saaliheen #1494]: This hadeeth makes it evident that one who prays for someone in his absence also stands to benefit from it because the angel appointed for the task of praying for those who pray for others will pray for him, saying, "O Allaah! Grant him also the same which he has asked for others".

If The Meal Is Ready, Eat And Then Pray

Question:

Is it true what some people say, that if dinner is ready and it is time for 'Isha' prayer, one should eat before praying? Many people rush to apply this principle, but I do not know whether it is true or not?
Answer:

This principle is correct and is founded on an authentic Hadeeth:
ÅÐÇ ÞÏã ÇáÚÔÇÁ ÝÇÈÏÄæÇ Èå ÞÈá Ãä ÊÕáæÇ ÕáÇÉ ÇáãÛÑÈ

"If dinner is served, then begin with it before you pray the Maghrib prayer." (Al-Bukhari no. 672 and Muslim no. 557)

When dinner is served, one obviously desires to eat, and were he to pray before eating that meal, his mind would be occupied in his abandoned meal, a state of mind that takes away from humility and concentration during prayer. For this reason the Prophet (sallAllaahu `alayhi wa sallam), said,

"There is no prayer when food is served, and there is no prayer when one is fighting off the two impurities (i.e., when one has to urinate or defecate)."

But it is necessary to mention here that one should avoid the habit of always having dinner at the time for prayer, because this will result in not praying in congregation.
