Best of you

44. "The best of you are those who are best in paying off their debts." [Tahâwi, Sahîh]

Quotes to remember

7. “Do not dispute with your brother, ridicule him, nor promise him and then break your promise.” (al-Tirmidhi)

Salafs sayings

Abu ad-Dardaa narrated [Saheeh Muslim, No.6588]: The Messenger of Allaah said: «No believing servant supplicates for his brother behind his back (in his absence), except that the Angels say: "The same be for you too".»
al-Imaam an-Nawawee comments [Riyaadh as-Saaliheen #1494]: This hadeeth makes it evident that one who prays for someone in his absence also stands to benefit from it because the angel appointed for the task of praying for those who pray for others will pray for him, saying, "O Allaah! Grant him also the same which he has asked for others".

Praying behind one that is not proficient in reciting the qur'aan

Question:

Is it correct (to say) that if the salaat is lead by one who is not proficient in reciting the qur'aan, in the presence of one who has memorised more than him, that their prayer (i.e. the congregation who are behind him) is not valid?
Answer:

It is a must that we know the meaning of our statement 'not being proficient in reciting the qur'aan'.
If the intent is that he not a 'fine' reciter then the salaat is sound.

As for if the meaning of him not being proficient, is that he makes the type of mistakes that change the meaning and perverts the words, then yes the prayer is not sound behind him with the presence of one who is more proficient in his recitation.
